About Me
Built for golfers who hate guessing
I started documenting courses because ‘beautiful photos’ don’t tell you pace, conditions, or whether the price matches the day you’re about to have.
The Average Golfer Guide is a straightforward guide for choosing your next round with confidence.
What You’ll Get In Every Review
- Value breakdown: green fee, add-ons, what’s included
- Course notes: tee boxes, greens, layout, standout holes
- Facilities rundown: range, practice areas, pro shop
- Hospitality notes: staff, food and drink, locker rooms
- Experience verdict: difficulty, enjoyability, booking ease
- Quick takeaway: best for, best time to play, what to watch for
Our Review Framework
We break down the green fee, any extra charges, and what’s included, then give a simple value verdict so you know if it’s worth it for your budget.
We cover tee box variety, green quality, layout and routing, standout holes, and any quirks you’ll want to know before you step onto the first tee.
We look at the practice setup, range, putting green, pro shop, halfway house, and carts so you know what the full day feels like beyond the fairways.
We pay attention to the welcome factor. That includes check-in, staff helpfulness, food and drink options, and locker room quality where available.
We pull it all together into the real-world round: difficulty, enjoyability, pace expectations, and how easy (or painful) it is to book and manage your tee time.
A Little About Me
Four years ago, I was on a golf trip in Scotland. On my way to Lockerbie Golf Club, to play Day 2 of the three-day trip with the society I play in. A friend of mine was talking to me about my current sports journalism diploma that I was undertaking, when he suddenly turned to me and said you should use your writing skills and knowledge of golf together to make a review website for golf courses.
It was a conversation that has always lingered with me, and I did genuinely think it was a great idea. I started writing reviews for courses and enjoyed looking at all aspects of a golf club. As the last couple of years ascended the price of golf has seemed to inflate. I also noticed there isn’t many platforms for the average golfer and therefore a combination of course views, value for money and the general experience of a golf club was the perfect way to help golfers decide where to play no matter the standard.
My name is Adam and I’ve been playing golf for about 7 years. I’ve got a handicap of 8 and I’m very fortunate to be in a hot bed of great golf courses. My course is West Lancashire Golf Club, which has hosted Open Qualifying events as well as big amateur events and the Rose Series Ladies events. It’s located in a stretch of golfing paradise which features Royal Birkdale, Royal Liverpool, Formby, Hillside and Southport & Ainsdale.
However, being based in the Northwest, gives a great opportunity to play a lot of courses, especially in Manchester and North Wales. I have played over 150 courses throughout the UK and a few abroad too and in each review, it is just my opinion. Every golfer has a different way of thinking when it comes to a golf course and these reviews aren’t designed to change your mind, but to guide you to what might be an enjoyable day of golf.
My ranking system is quite straightforward and will also breakdown different elements of a golf club. Some aspects are more important than others and I have tried to include the important things when choosing a golf day or a golf trip. Course, Facilities, Value for money are all included and while I have overall rankings, each category has it’s own ranking too. I am also open to other people’s views and add people’s own reviews to that course if it is relevant.
If you’re interested then carry on and click here. Enjoy!!!
